AmberChrom™ 1x8 Chloride form

AmberChrom™ 1x8 Chloride Form: High-Performance Strong Anion Exchange Resin

AmberChrom™ 1x8 Chloride Form is a strong anion exchange resin engineered for high-efficiency ion exchange processes. It consists of a cross-linked polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) matrix functionalized with quaternary ammonium groups, which remain positively charged across a wide pH range. Supplied in the chloride (Cl⁻) form, this resin is particularly effective for removing or exchanging negatively charged species (anions) in aqueous media.

Used in both analytical and industrial-scale processes, AmberChrom™ 1x8 is known for its high capacity, chemical durability, and versatility across a broad range of applications.

Key Specifications

  • Matrix: Cross-linked polystyrene-divinylbenzene (typically 8% DVB)

  • Functional Group: Trimethylammonium (-N⁺(CH₃)₃)

  • Ionic Form: Supplied in chloride (Cl⁻) form

  • Type: Strong Base Anion Exchange (SBA), Type I

  • Exchange Capacity: Typically ~1.2–1.4 meq/mL (wet basis)

  • Bead Size: Uniform or standard gel beads (typically 300–1200 µm depending on grade)

Key Features

  • Strong Base Functionality: Maintains ion exchange capacity across the full pH range (0–14), ideal for rigorous conditions.

  • Chloride Form: Ready for immediate use in applications involving exchange of Cl⁻ for other anions (e.g., sulfate, nitrate, bicarbonate).

  • High Chemical and Thermal Stability: Resists degradation by acids, bases, and many organic solvents.

  • Low Fouling Potential: High cross-linking and optimized hydrophobicity minimize organic fouling and extend operational life.

  • Regenerable: Easily regenerated using standard acid or salt solutions, such as NaOH or NaCl.

Applications

  • Deionization and Water Treatment: Removes strong and weak acid anions (e.g., SO₄²⁻, NO₃⁻, HCO₃⁻) in water purification and softening systems.

  • Pharmaceutical Processing: Used for purification and isolation of anionic compounds, including biomolecules and drug intermediates.

  • Food and Beverage Industry: Assists in color removal, flavor adjustment, and deashing of juices, sweeteners, or fermentation broths.

  • Chemical Manufacturing: Applied in catalyst recovery, organic acid purification, and waste stream neutralization.

  • Laboratory-Scale Ion Exchange Chromatography: Supports analytical separations and resin screening workflows.

Operating Guidelines

Parameter Typical Range
pH Range 0 – 14
Operating Temperature Up to 60°C (standard)
Regeneration 4–10% NaCl or 2–4% NaOH
Flow Rate 1–5 bed volumes/hour (BV/h)
Swelling (Cl⁻ to OH⁻) ~20–25% volume increase

Storage and Handling

  • Store in a tightly sealed container with moisture to prevent drying.

  • Avoid freezing. Store between 5°C and 40°C.

  • If resin dries out, rehydrate slowly in deionized water.

  • Handle with gloves and eye protection during regeneration and disposal.
